How to write an essay
While it should generally be easy, essay writing can be a daunting task if one is not well prepared. In order to write well, one needs to do prolific reading so they are knowledgeable in whatever they are writing. In academic writing, you should use active voice and avoid contractions, abbreviations, and colloquialisms.
Use short words, short sentences, and short paragraphs. This makes your writing easy to follow and understand. Additionally, good writing gets to the point. Write concisely by recognizing wordiness and cutting unnecessary words.
You should also never use jargons in places you can use simple words because they (jargons) confuse readers and detach them from the message. Good writing is also immediately understood. Ensure this by writing coherently and explicitly.
In whatever writing you do, aim at simplifying complicated information. If it is an informative piece for example, simplify the concept so that readers do not have to look further for its meaning. Importantly, ensure your writing has integrity. If you use information from another source, cite it.
Finally, good writing is clear. You can ensure this by proofreading your writing so that you may identify and correct any ambiguity or grammar and spelling mistakes.
