An informative speech is a piece of writing that informs your audience about something they do not know. To begin writing it, you need to pick a topic on an issue that is worth knowing. The topic should be of a narrow range so you may well exhaust it.
Next, write a thesis statement. The thesis should contain the purpose of your speech and the topic. Once you have a topic and thesis statement, you need to come up with strategies about how you are going to discuss that topic. Some of the strategies you may use include defining, reporting, describing, explaining, demonstrating, and comparing.
You may need to do some research if you are not well versed in your topic. After deciding on the strategies, develop central ideas or main points to support your thesis statement. Pick an organizational pattern in which you are going to arrange your points. Once you have main points, develop sub-points to support or prove them.
Next, write a statement or two that form the basis for your conclusion.
Finally write a formal preparation outline and transform it into a speech.
