Comparison Between the American Revolutionary War and the Vietnam War

In the wake to understanding the pre-colonial and post-colonial standings of political America, there is a need to compare the aspects of the American Revolutionary War and the Vietnam Wars. The need to compare these two wars comes as a result of the form of political unrest during their occurrences (Hinderaker, and Eric, 2005). The American Revolutionary War was a revolt that was a form of a colonial uprising that took place between the years 1765 and the years 1783. The revolution arose because the American patriots from the Americas thirteen protectorates or rather colonies engaged in a war with the British American. The British Americas’ defeat was because the French assisted the Americans. And as a result, the war led to the establishment of the united states of America as an independent country with political independence.

On the other hand, the Vietnam war, also known as the Second Indochina War, occurred between 1954 and 1975. During the period of this war, the united states and the other members of the South Asia Treaty Organization decided to get into the war in the Republic of South Vietnam. Together with the SEATO states, these united states of America joined the battle to contest with the communist forces of south Vietnam (Heberle, Mark, 2020). The Vietnam communists’ forces were comprised of the Vietnam Gorilla fighters and the regular troops of South Vietnam, also known as the Viet Cong and the North Viet Army. The result of the Vietnam war in comparison with the American Revolutionary War was that the number of causalities was very high, with over three million casualties both from the local forces and the SEATO forces.

The result of the American Revolutionary War is that the war was successfully brought to an end by imposing a colonial rule on the thirteen states of the united states. This was of significance to the united states as General Cornwallis surrendered willingly due to the pressure imposed on him by the opponents. The end of the war was brought about when Great Britain’s commons finally voted against the continuing of the war, granting the thirteen states of the united states self-rule. The parliament of Great Britain sent its official ease the hostilities and oppression to the united states of America in February of 1783. The result of the revolutionary war is that it finally led to the signing of the Treaty of Paris, restoring peace between the two countries. The impact of Great Britain was that they lost their colonial power on the thirteen states of the United States of America (Shy, 2014).

Compared to the American Revolutionary War, the Vietnam War experienced significant adverse effects due to the following facts. The war led to massive loss of lives, with more than three million deaths. This was because the united states of America, together with the SEATO, used very aggressive means to control Vietnam. On the other hand, Vietnam responded aggressively to the aggression from the united states and the SEATO (Stellman et al., 2018). The Vietnam war had many adversities compared to the American Revolutionary War because; there were massive military activities characterized by mass bombing and the use of environmentally unfriendly chemicals, which adversely affected the natural environment of Vietnam. These chemicals, therefore, caused health challenges that affected Vietnam for a long time.

A similarity arises from the two wars in that the two wars acted as an example for the other countries fighting oppression from the colonial rule. This factor demoralized the colonial administrations as the world was growing. There was influence from the experiences that Britain, the united states, and Vietnam had shown to the world. Other states embraced the styles to resist oppression from the experiences they saw from the three countries. The colonizers were scared of having similar experiences from different countries across the world. The Vietnam war, together with the American Revolutionary War, is the same in that the two wars acted as an eye-opener to the world. Ireland acted following the experiences of the united states and in resisting Britain’s oppression (Heberle and Mark, 2020).

In conclusion, the two wars are similar in that the oppressors finally lost in the long run. Great Britain, as the humiliators in The American Revolutionary War, lost their control for the united states as a result of their aggression and stringent strict rule. Like the Vietnam war, the united states dropped the war against Vietnam as it imposed strict regulations to put Vietnam under its control. In both cases, Vietnam and The United States of America won the battle against their oppressors. The two wars are also similar in that the humiliators in both wars experienced psychological effects after losing the wars to their subjects. Also, the two wars were characterized by the massive destruction of property and lives, as the forces in each case were highly armed and used very sophisticated methods of war to try and impose rules on their subjects (Daly, 1986).
