An admission or application essay helps you get admitted to a college or university of your dreams. It is an essay in which you describe yourself and explain why you deserve a chance at the institution you are applying at.
Choose a topic that highlights who you are. In some instances however, the college or university may provide the topic. Whichever way, be sure to share your personal story and thoughts. Take a creative approach and include areas you feel best describes you.
Keep a narrow and personal focus. Do not try to cover too many topics as this will make the essay less detailed. Focus on one aspect which you think will make readers know more about yourself.
Do not tell but show. Do not try to get an idea across by simply stating a fact. You should instead develop your ideas through specific reasons, examples, and details. While at it, use your own voice and avoid relying on ideas and phrases that have been used by people many times before.
Finally, proofread your essay. You may also ask a parent or teacher to proofread it for you.
