I am Stacy Mandy and I would like to talk to you today about becoming an organ donor. Many people wait for years for them to get available compatible organs. There is a growing need for organ donors. Become a donor and save a life.

By donating, you will be giving the hope of a prolonged life to a hopeless person. How would you feel if you were told by your cardiologist that you only have three months to live unless a compatible kidney becomes available soon? This is what doctors tell thousands of people every day. These people could end up waiting for months or even years for compatible organs to become available, that is if they become available. Many of these people could have a happy ending but the grim reality is that they do not and many more will not if you do not become a donor. It reaches a point you can save a person’s life and it all depends on whether or not you agree to do that. Becoming a donor is one sure way of giving another person a new lease of life.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, organs can be donated by people of all ages. You can donate your organs up to when you are seventy years old (Brezina, 2009). Your age does not make you ineligible and you do not have to be in perfect health. It is at the time of your death that your ability to donate is determined. However, that does not mean that you cannot register to become a donor upon your death. Since all of us are dying someday in the future, why not become a donor and let your organs enable somebody have a longer life?

According recent data, 2.5 million people died in the United States in 2007. If every one of those people had donated their organs, could you imagine how different my statistics here would be?

You definitely do not need your organs once you die. You cease to physically exist and your remains are either buried or cremated. Why not be mindful enough of humanity and allow your organs to be used by those who are still living? Somebody could do the same for your child or close family member in future after you are long gone. It is not like doctors will deform your body while extracting the organs. There are careful procedures of taking them out such that your body remains in good shape and may be viewed by your loved ones before burial or cremation. And trust me, you will forever be remembered as one of those who saved humanity.

So as you can see, becoming an organ donor is not difficult neither is it a bad idea. It enables you to donate the organs which you will no longer need and become a hero and miracle to thousands of people. It could be one of the most important decisions you ever make in your life. It is also the greatest and most powerful gift you could ever give to another human being because you are giving them the gift of life. I have given you facts and statistics regarding this necessary decision. Someday, you could be one of those people on the waiting list.
